- Who makes Egnater amps?
Bruce Egnater and his company,
Music Products Group, make Egnater amps.
However, over the course of time, Bruce has made licensing agreements with Rocktron and Randall
to produce his designs.

- What has Bruce Egnater designed/built?
Bruce has hand-built some designs under the "Egnater" name. Other designs have been mass produced by other
companies, namely Rocktron and Randall. The "Egnater by Rocktron" amps were mass produced by Rocktron
under Bruce's supervision.

- What's the difference between the TOL100H and the TOL100RC?
The TOL100H was Bruce's original design. The "H" denotes it's an amplifier head. The "RC" in TOL100RC
stands for "Reverb Combo". Besides being mounted in a combo box, the TOL100RC has tube driven reverb.

- What does TOL stand for?
TOL stands for "Tone Of Life."

- What's the difference between "Egnater" and "Egnater by Rocktron" TOLs?
"Egnater" amps are hand-built by Bruce Egnater. The "Egnater by Rocktron" amps were mass produced by Rocktron
under Bruce's supervision.
The Egnater by Rocktron TOL100 has a slightly different design than the original Egnater TOL100. The original
TOL100 has a series effects loop; the Rocktron version has a series/parallel effects loop. Egnater TOL100H's have no
reveb; Egnater TOL100RC's have tube driven reverb; the Rocktron TOL100 has a solid-state reverb driver in both the heads and combos.

- Where can I find manuals for Egnater amps?
Currently, you must request manuals from Rocktron. I have a copy of the TOL100 manual that I am digitizing.
Soon it will be available in the tech help section.

- Where can I find schematics for Egnater amps?
You can find schematics to the TOL100, TOL50, and IE4 in the tech help section of this site. Schematics for the M4
and MOD100 are not available.

- Is the TOL amp line still in production?
No, Bruce delivered the last hand-wired TOL100 amp in February 2002 and Rocktron dropped the TOL line in 2001.

- What does MICA stand for?
MICA stands for "MIDI Controllable Amp."
All TOL100 amps are MIDI controllable and are therefore MICA amps, but only the hand-built
TOLs have a large MICA logo screen-printed on the chassis. For this reason you will sometimes
see "MICA TOL" used when referring to hand-built TOLs.

- Are hand-built Egnater amps PTP or PCB?
PTP - point to point; PCB - printed circuit board
Egnater amps are hand-built on PCBs. PCBs are commonly used by high production hand-built boutique
manufacturers such as Egnater, Bogner, and Budda, to name a few.

- What is the TOS mod?
Most TOL100s have a three position voicing switch for channels 3 & 4; offering modes: Vintage, Modern1, and Modern2.
(Only the earliest TOLs did not have this switch). The TOS mod changes two of the three voices: Vintage and Modern2,
Modern1 is unchanged.
The mids in the TOL100 channel's 3 & 4 are "low-centered," which is what players were looking
for in the early 90's, when the amp was originally designed. The TOS mod moves the center of the MID control in these
two modes (Vintage and Modern2) so that it is more responsive to the frequency range that modern players enjoy.
The mod is often described as "opening-up" the Vintage mode and "scooping" the Modern2 mode.
The TOS mod also unleashes more gain in the 4th channel. This pushes the TOL100 into sonic territory covered by other ultra-high
gain amps produced today.
I'm told the TOS mod is named after Steve Snider who commissioned the original mod from Bruce. So it's been dubbed the
"Tone of Snider," or TOS for short.
